Coca-Cola 600 Race in Charlotte-2014

This is the 55th running of the Coca-Cola 600 race and the closing race in the 10 day racing event in Charlotte. Truly a historic a event and a huge endurance test for all the drivers. The race takes place over Memorial Day weekend and as always, special events/activities are planned to pay honor to our nations military. 

Race is set to begin at 6:15 pm and ticket prices vary.

It’s NASCAR’s Nationwide Series time to showcase their talent in the 300 mile showdown.

LiftMaster Pole Day in Charlotte-2014

Join the fun for the first annual Liftmaster Pole Day! This is a drivers challenge to determine the lineup order for 43 top drivers in the Coca-Cola 600 Race. Since the track at Charlotte Motor Speedway is over 1.25 miles, it will be a three-rounds. See below for an explanation…

**Race to begin at 7:00 pm & ticket prices are $12 in advance. Children 13 and under are free!

Three-round qualifying format:

• Round 1 — All entries will have 25 minutes to post a qualifying time, after which the 24 registering the fastest laps will advance to the second round.

Those failing to advance will be sorted based on first-round times in descending order (from fastest to slowest).

• Round 2 — The 24 fastest from the first round will have 10 minutes to post a second-round qualifying time, with the 12 fastest advancing to a third round.

Those not advancing will earn starting positions 13 through 24 based on time, again in descending order.

• Round 3 — The final round will be five minutes in length. The fastest times from this session will determine the first (Coors Light Pole Award) through 12th starting positions.

There will be a five-minute break between each round; teams may make adjustments to their entries only during the individual breaks.

They will not be allowed to jack the vehicle or raise the hood, and once the car or truck enters the garage, it will no longer be permitted to return to the track for additional qualifying attempts.

NASCAR Sprint Allstar Race in Charlotte-2014

The NASCAR Sprint Allstar race is one the drivers and fans favorite race! This race will have the fans on their feet and the drivers on edge as they race to the finish. A large pot of gold is waiting for the winner of the race. You can expect to see a lot of tire rubbing and paint swapping from beginning to the end of this race! 

Head out early to beat the traffic and to enjoy the festivities before the main event.

NC Education Lottery 200 Truck Race in Charlotte-2014

If you love racing, then you will not want to miss this race! NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will battle under the lights to determine a winner. 

The race is set to begin at 8:00 pm and ticket prices vary.


Head out early to watch the Sprint Showdown. A 40 lap race for drivers to race their way into the Allstar Race on Saturday.

Sprint Showdown Race in Charlotte-2014

Join all your favorite drivers as they race 40 laps in the Sprint Showdown. This is the first race in during the 10 day event and is very important to drivers that didn’t win a race last season. Who will be the winner this year? Who will be the fan favorite?

Also, stay to watch the NASCAR Camping Truck World Series drivers race 200 miles under the lights!

Sporting events always draw big crowds in the Charlotte area.

  FOOTBALL The Carolina Panthers (704-358-7800, www.panthers.com) took to the field as an NFL expansion team in 1995 and rose to a magical season in 2004, making their first-ever Super Bowl appearance against the New England Patriots. Their home, the natural-grass Bank of America Stadium, is located in Third Ward Uptown. BASKETBALL The NBA returned to Charlotte in 2004 thanks to Black Entertainment Television founder Robert Johnson. The Charlotte Bobcats (704-262-2287; www.nba.com/bobcats) play in the new Charlotte Arena in Uptown. The Charlotte area is also home to wonderful ACC teams (www.theacc.com) such as North Carolina, Duke, Clemson, North Carolina State & Wake Forest. BASEBALL The Charlotte Knights (704-364-6637, www.charlotteknights.com), a farm club for the Chicago White Sox, have played baseball in the Charlotte area for more than 100 years. They currently play at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill but may move closer to the city soon. HOCKEY On the ice, the Charlotte Checkers (704-342-4423,  www.gocheckers.com) are the East Coast Hockey League affiliates of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack. The team recently moved to the Charlotte Arena. SOCCER For soccer fans there are the Charlotte Eagles, a professional team in the second division of the United Soccer Leagues, and the Lady Eagles, who play in the Atlantic division of the USL’s W league (704-841-8644, www.charlotteeagles.com). GOLF In May 2003, Wachovia first sponsored the PGA tour to Charlotte at Quail Hollow Country Club , which has welcomed by such golfing greats as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickleson. NASCAR races roar at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, including the Coca-Cola 600 and the Sprint All-Star Challenge in May and the UAW-GM Quality 500 in October (704-455-3200, www.lowesmotorspeedway.com). Racing excitement spills from the speedway into uptown Charlotte during Speed Week each May. You can enjoy a parade, fireworks, entertainment, food and special events leading up to the races.

FISHING The Charlotte Regional Sports Commission (704-332-7717, www.charlottesports.org) sponsors other sporting events in the Charlotte Area, like the Citgo Bassmaster Classic at Lake Norman. The commission also works to bring in sports organizations and teams, which contribute millions to the local economy and enhance the area’s overall quality of life.  OTHER SPORTING EVENTS Other big sporting events include the Charlotte Run for Peace and 10K (www.charlotterunforpeace.com) in January and the Queens Cup Steeplechase in Mineral Springs in Union County (704-843-7070, www.queenscup.org) in April. The Continental Tire Bowl brought the excitement for a college football bowl game to the Carolinas and has recently been changed to the Meineke Car Care Bowl.
